The New Generation SIMATIC RF380R reader for the high-end performance range has an integrated antenna. Its compact construction makes it ideal for use in assembly lines in which long ranges are required (e.g. bodyshop/paintshop in the automotive industry). This reader is also particularly suitable for dynamic applications, in which the transponder does not stop during the read/write process (e.g. baggage conveyors in airports).

It has both an RS 422 and an RS 232 interface with a 3964R transmission procedure for connection to RFID communication modules (see "Communication modules") as well as to non-Siemens controllers or the PC.

Due to its high degree of protection and the use of high-quality materials, the SIMATIC RF380R facilitates problem-free operation even under the harshest industrial conditions. The reader is connected via an 8-pin M12 plug-in connector.

Additional performance features compared with the first generation RF380R:

• Additional transponder protocol (air interface) for MOBY E transponders (MIFARE classic, ISO 14443 A)
• Automatic detection of different transponder types (RF300, ISO 15693, MOBY E). Mixed operation also possible
• Emulation of MOBY I read/write devices (SLG4x) to the interface module for easy migration of old systems (but no emulation of air interface to MOBY I transponders)

• Setup help integrated in reader for simple optimization of reader-transponder positioning during installation/commissioning, without the need for additional tools or equipment
• Improved 2-LED display for normal operation, transponder presence, integrated setup help and error status
• Fast Command for 2 and 8 KB ISO data storage media (MDS D4xx, D5xx) for enhanced speed reading
