PROFINET S2 devices are switched to a high-availability system with SCALANCE XF204-2BA DNA (Y-switch), which was previously only possible with PROFIBUS systems.

• The Y-switch combines a redundant PROFINET ring consisting of S2 devices (field level) with a high-availability PROFINET system (R1 system)
• This link connects the S2 devices to an H system thus further reducing the failure of field device communication with the CPU and thus significantly increasing the availability of the network as a whole

 Y-switch functionality

The SCALANCE XF204-2BA DNA offers Y-switch functionality for connecting S2 devices to a high-availability R1 system. As well as the two Y-switch ports, two other switch ports are also available on the device side. These can be used to operate an MRP ring, for example.

Note:

When using the SCALANCE XF-200BA DNA, note that diagnostics can currently only be made via a CPU in the H-System, and a shock-free change to the configuration (CiR function) is not supported (FW update stage is under development).
