The PROFINET Driver for controllers is supplied as portable source code. Users can integrate the PROFINET Driver as C code into their own applications. Field devices (distributed I/O, drives) are connected via an XML-based configuration file. This can either be created by the user, or generated in STEP 7 (TIA Portal). The comprehensively documented IO-Base interface is used as the programming interface.

Licensing

The PROFINET Driver for controllers is supplied with a development license allowing users to use the source code to start a development, carry out tests, and create prototypes.

For operational use, a Runtime license must be obtained for each copy of the compiled PROFINET Driver. As proof that the license has been obtained, a license label must be attached to the PC running the PROFINET Driver. The Runtime licenses can be ordered in different quantities.
