Discharge reactor for compensation equipment:
Banks of capacitors in p.f. compensation equipment can be connected and disconnected to and from the supply system as required. If the supply system is connected to a capacitor bank that is not fully discharged, mains voltage spikes can occur which can damage connected devices. The capacitors must be discharged quickly following disconnection of a capacitor bank to allow rapid reconnection. In this case, discharge reactors offer significant advantages. In contrast to the discharge impedances used in the past, the resulting losses are considerably lower. The ambient temperature rise is lower which has a positive effect on the service life of the phase shift capacitors.

The discharge reactors meet the requirement for permanently connected imobile discharge devices as well as the requirement for short capacitor discharge times of just a few seconds. The power losses that occur during operation are, due to the high AC impedance, lower than 1.8 W and therefore negligable.
